What is Ballistic Nylon? Who developed it? What is it used for?

Ballistic NylonBallistic Nylon is a tough, durable nylon fabric developed by the DuPont corporation for use in flak jackets worn by airmen in World War II. It protected its wearers from shrapnel. The term ballistic nylon is used today to describe any nylon that is made with a "ballistic weave", which is usually a 2x2 or 2x3 basketweave of nylon thread. Ballistic nylon, because of its durability and resistance to tearing is today often found in luggage and backpacks.
