This attractive new daypack replaces WE's longstanding and popular Flashback model. The Wilderness Equipment Flash 25 Litre Daypack continues the tradition of the teardrop design now renewed with clean, contemporary styling. With features like the laptop slip, quick-stash side pouches, built-in pen holsters and easy-grab handle, this is an everyday city-use daypack. What sets it apart is WE's continued use throughout of high quality canvas, heavy-duty zippers and an obsessive attention to reinforcment against wear and tear. The new segmented design canvas harness panel body surface easily adapts to any body shape. With mid-twenty litre capacity this classic canvas, 'investment-for-life' daypack is the perfect solution for students, commuters, travellers and day hikers.
Additional Information about the Flash
The 'teardrop' design provides useful capacity with convenient access. The shape handles books, ring files and everyday items with equal ease. The space at the top of the bag is a useful place to stuff a clothing layer without upsetting the shape or weight distribution. The two inverted-U zips on this pack are both heavy-duty #10 size and reversed so the zipper coil stitching is not exposed to abrasion. For this classic canvas model we choose to retain the effective weather flaps over the zippers rather than compromise with an exposed, water-repellent laminated zipper type. The pack is shaped to follow both the vertical and lateral curves of the back. Like the Slipstream the pack carries an area of silver Scotchlite® retro-reflective material for safety visibility in poor light, in this case low down on the bag to suit the cycling position. The bottle pockets located on each side of the bag are now made in canvas to eliminate snagging and have replaceable shock cord adjustment in their rims. This detail overcomes the inevitable problem of stitched elastic rims failing before any other aspect of the Flash's 'bombproof' construction. Inside the main compartment you will find a 3-D slip pocket that can serve to retain a laptop or as a water bladder holder. A drink tube port is provided at the top of the harness panel. There is also a zipped flat compartment against the harness panel enclosing a closed-cell foam panel. This compartment is useful for documents that require infrequent access. The cc-foam insert backs up our new segmented harness panel construction. In the outside pocket we have provided a zipped mesh compartment against the pocket front panel and a pen and CD holder against the back face.
The FLASH is a good-looking, well balanced, general purpose day pack for students, commuters and walkers. If you need to carry that bit extra this day pack will fit the bill and give you great service for many, many years.
If you need a longer 25mm waist strap than the standard one fitted a long version is available. If you do not use the waist strap it is easily disconnected. Proprietary canvas re-proofing solution are available through your backpack retailer and when the time comes will give your pack a new lease of life, a possibility just not available with pure synthetic fabric packs.

Sizing and Fitting Your Wilderness Equipment Backpack
Where a daypack is not fitted with a substantial hip harness WE specify the back length so you can judge how it might rest on your back. Some long daypacks may be too long for use on very short torsos.
Where WE quote a back length of 450mm this is the distance from base seam on the harness panel up to either the shoulder harness top stabiliser strap anchor buckles (if present), or otherwise, the seam where the fixed shoulder harness arms attach to the pack bag (as with the classic canvas daypack models). Our daypack back lengths are either 400mm (S), 450mm (M) or 500mm(L).
You can think of these lengths as corresponding to the backpack sizes S, M and L for packs that ARE fitted with substantial hip harness systems. If you are a size L in this type of pack then you will also be able to comfortably carry a 500mm back length basic daypack.
The majority of WE's simple daypack models are 450mm, suitable for all but the shortest torsos.
Steps to Measuring Your Back Length
Measure the vertical distance from the crest of your hip bone up to the level of your shoulder surface, where the pack shoulder harness will rest. Find the top of your hip bone (pelvic crest) on one side. Hold the end of a tape measure on the bone. It slopes down as you move along it towards the front centreline of your body. Find a position directly down from a point on the corresponding shoulder at the place where the shoulder harness arm will cross it. Now, extend the tape measure vertically upwards from the hip bone and, at the same time, rest a ruler or other straight edge horizontally on your shoulder, extending forward from where the shoudler harness padded arm will rest. Ask someone to help out with this. Read off and note the distance where the shoulder level meets the tape measure.
