The Patagonia Cragsmith Pack's versatile design allows easy access through the top or back panel, which opens wide to reveal contents without laying the pack harness in the dirt.
Fight through the crux, fight to secure the key cam placement, but don’t fight to get the gear in and out of your pack. Patagonia's go-anywhere Cragsmith Pack allows instant access to your pack’s contents via the zippered back panel and the zippered top. Two entry options make packing lightning-fast and with the U-shaped back panel, you can lay your pack at the base of a route, open it wide and never expose your gear or the pack’s harness system to grit and dirt. Inside, soft foam lines the sides and bottom to provide structure and maintain shape for easier packing. Durable Cordura® Ballistic fabric combined with reinforced haul handles and a reinforced base withstand the abrasion of craggy environments. Pockets include a zippered stash pocket for your topos and energy bars and one pocket in the lid. The top compression strap holds a rope and manages overstuffed loads; an exterior daisy chain lets you clip on even more gear. A padded waist belt, load lifters and airflow mesh shoulder straps and back panel keep you cool and comfortable when you’re wallowing up long, steep approaches. Made from 7.4-oz 630-denier nylon with a polyurethane coating. The base is 9.25-oz 940-denier Cordura® Ballistic nylon with a polyurethane coating. Both fabrics have a DWR (durable water repellent) finish.

DWR (durable water repellent) fabric finish repels light rain and snow and decreases dry times. When DWR is used in conjunction with a waterproof/breathable barrier, the DWR finish keeps the outer fabric from becoming saturated so that the breathable barrier can do its job.
Although Patagonia has been using recycled polyester in their garments for 20 years, for some reason locked deep in polymer chemistry, nylon is more difficult to recycle than polyester. After years of research, development, and testing, they're finally finding some recycled nylon fibers that are suitable for apparel.
Some of the recycled nylon Patagonia uses comes from post-industrial waste fiber, yarn collected from a spinning factory, and waste from the weaving mills that can be processed into reusable nylon fiber.
Patagonia is diligently searching for a success story with recycled nylon. The challenge lies ahead of them, and they are committed to discovering the best methods to recycle nylon fiber, but it appears this evolution will take many years.
